Since 2012, Foshan has vigorously promoted building energy conservation and green buildings. As of the first half of 2020, the cumulative area of green buildings in Foshan has exceeded 65 million m2, a total of 745 outstanding green building projects have been created. It has overfulfilled the green building construction task targets set by the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Guangdong Province for eight consecutive years.
On April 25, 2019, the Foshan Municipal Government officially issued the Implementation Measures for the Promotion of Prefabricated Buildings in Foshan, which stated that developing prefabricated buildings is of great significance to the development and innovation of Foshan's modern construction industry. Foshan will take measures to ensure that by 2025, the area of newly built prefabricated buildings will account for 35% of the newly built building area, of which the prefabricated building area of government-invested projects will account for 70%.
As a national advanced manufacturing city, Foshan was awarded the "Guangdong Province Prefabricated Building Model City" at the end of 2019, and the "National Prefabricated Building Model City" in September 2020.
On October 13, 2020, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development jointly issued a notice on standards of government procurement requirements for green buildings and green building materials. The pilot cities are Nanjing, Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Huzhou, Qingdao, and Foshan. It is required to promote recyclable and reusable building materials, high-strength and high-durability building materials, green parts and components, green decoration materials, water-saving and energy-saving building materials, and so forth, in government procurement projects, apply assembly, intelligent and other new industrialized construction methods of buildings , and encourage the construction of two-star and above green buildings.
